“The finest glasses for both technical and hedonistic purposes are those made by Riedel. The effect of these glasses on fine wine is profound. I cannot emphasize enough what a difference they make.” - Robert M. Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate
“The Riedel family has never stamped its name on a single bottle of wine. But over the past 50 years, this Austrian clan of master glassmakers has done more to enhance the oenophile's pleasure than almost any winemaking dynasty.” - Time Magazine
Join us Thursday November 4, 2010 as Maximillian Riedel presents “Size & Shape Does Matter” Size and shape do matter, and we can prove it!!! A RIEDEL comparative tasting is an amazing workshop for wine lovers of all knowledge levels to experience what Michel Bettane, Robert Parker, and Time Magazine have said. Not only does shape matter, it's crucial to the enjoyment of Wine. Upon completion of the workshop, each attendee will receive a RIEDEL CRYSTAL tasting set of four stemware to take home. A retail value of $116.00.
Claus Riedel was the first person in the history of making glassware to design the shape according to the character of the wine. He is the inventor of the functional wine glass. The story begins in 1756 in Bohemia and continues right down to the united Europe of today, taking in on the way some of the most dramatic events in European history. The Riedel family has been in the glass business for 300 years, with 11 generations keeping the family business intact. The Riedel story begins in 1678 in the northern part of Bohemia, bordering Schlesia...today the Czech republic and Poland respectively. This part of Bohemia was a German speaking enclave known as the Sudetenland.
This Bohemian glass merchant was the starting point for a direct line through several generations down to today’s corporate head Georg J. Riedel and his son Maximillian. Each Riedel in this long chain has been able to contribute his personal skills and views to expand the company´s success and make it what it is today.
